I'm headed up to the White Mountains of New Hampshire to do a bit of rock climbing and thought I would take one day to field test my new DeLorme Earthmate PN-40 against my favorite GPS, the Garmin 400t. I'll post the results next week. I'll compare accuracy, reception and usability.

I've hiked Maine's Mount Katahdin in Baxter State Park about a dozen times in my life. The first time was on a 7 day solo hiking trip I took when I was 16. Since then I've introduced this incredible place to several of my friends and family. Hiking here in the fall is, by far, my favorite time to do it. Katahdin sits alone up there like a big out of place mountain surrounded by flatland.
